teaching artist
I am an Indianapolis-based ceramic artist and educator. I fell in love with clay some 30 years ago and have developed my craft over many years of university and art center classes, numerous workshops, and much trial and error.
My sculptural work mines my own life experiences - growing up, mothering, loss, aging, and the fragile beauty of now - to not only better understand my humanity, but to remind viewers of theirs. My ceramic forms often reference or include things found in nature – seeds, bones, stones, and fossils – artifacts of the living world. Their context and beauty lend potent metaphors to the themes I explore.
In addition to studio work, my practice includes journaling, appreciating poetry, spending time outdoors, and teaching. I have taught ceramics since 2003 with special emphases on hand building, primitive firing techniques, and fostering delight. I offer 8-week classes and private lessons through Fountain Square Clay Center in Indianapolis, IN.
